Phobia is a Greek word meaning “Fear” or “Morbid fear. And some types of phobias are Acrophobia, Agyrophobia, Mnemophobia, Nyctophobia, Somniphobia
1.Acrophobia-Heights
Acrophobia -is an extreme fear of heights. Acrophobia is taken from greek “akron, meaning peak, and Phobos.fear.When they stand or are at the top they feel a fear of falling. “Head for Heights” who have little fear of such exposure. Head for Heights is useful for those who hiking and climbing mountainous. People who suffer, with this fear of heights feel a panic attack when they are in high places. 2-5% of the approximate population has Acrophobia, in this case, women have twice than men.
2.Agyrophobia-Crossing roads
Agyrophobia an abnormal persistent fear of crossing the streets, road and highways. It is also known as “Dromophobia”. The term Dromophobia comes from the Greek “Dromos”, meaning “race track”. A person who is suffering from Agyrophobia can causes road accidents as a subtype of panic disorder with Agorobhiba. Agyrophobia especially present in children. This may result in an anticipatory anxiety which is related to a person’s limited mobility due to Stiff Person Syndrome(SPS). A person who is suffering from SPS if the cross street they may develop attacks of increasing stiffness or spasms.
3.Mnomophobia-Memories
Mnemophobia is a fear of memories it might be by remembering past events or memories and fearing memory loss in case of having a mental condition like Alzheimer’s. This phobia can be cured by treating using exposure-response therapy by Psychologists.
The people who suffer from this phobia avoid talking about their negative past or memories and in some cases they may abandon their friends. The symptoms for this phobia are urge to free, having trust issues and screaming and feeling like losing one’s mind, a psychotic break in severe cases. and loss of control and weeping and suicide thoughts.
4.Nyctophobia-Darkness
Nyctophobia is a fear of Darkness, this may cause to increase in symptoms of anxiety and depression. A fear become phobia when it becomes more affects our day-to-day life. Fear of dark starts from childhood among children, mostly in some cases it continuous. If fear is more Sufferers consider Pathological, it is also called “Scotophobia”(darkness) or “Lygophobia”(twilight). By some researches, fear of the dark is manifestation of separation “Anxiety disorder”.
5.Somniphobia-Sleep
Somniphobia is a fear of sleep. It is also known as “Hypnophobia. The word is derived from the Latin word “Somnus” meaning ‘sleep’ and ‘Phobos’ meaning ‘fear”. When a person fails as sleep it is due to fear and anxiety. The who sufferers to this phobia fears, what happens if they sleep and sometimes they may “out of control” and in some cases nightmares and feel that they are called by their loved ones.
